Booze! Terror! Paula Radcliffe! They’re all in this week’s The Sunday Read.
It’s the day after Saint Patrick’s and you had a wonderful time abusing yourself with drinks last night. How was today’s long run? Maybe not so great. Women’s Health – but, guys, you can lean from this too – address four ways in which booze hampers your personal best. http://bit.ly/ydFnWW
Anyone watching today’s New York City Half Marathon might have been struck by New Zealander Kim Smith’s running form. She led the race for almost the entire time, but also appeared to be doing her best Paula Radcliffe imitation: hunched up, grimacing, almost listing to one side at points. No one’s going to criticize her after her second place finish, but they might look askance at you for demonstrating that same kind of form. Are you running properly? Maybe, to have good form, you just need to lose those shoes. Over 500,000 people tuned in this week to watch The Perfect Runner on CBC TV. The show is now available online over on the broadcaster’s website. But you might not know much about the runner and director behind the documentary. The National Post’s Ben Kaplan interviewed Niobe Thompson here: http://bit.ly/zclhPP
You think running a marathon is tough? How about running one where the threat of terrorist action is very real? A reporter at the Jerusalem Post offers a compelling first-person account of running in that city’s second 26.2 race. http://bit.ly/yckB3o
And for another take on the same race, check out this report from Newsday: http://bit.ly/ztof1Y
I would love to do the Jerusalem marathon. Talk about historic… Boston ain’t got nothing on that city.
Jerusalem is a stunningly beautiful city. I imagine it would be a tough run with all the hills though. Thanks for reading.
Thanks for the Competitor link – great article! Also, Kim Smith is from New Zealand!
